Japanese anime chain store Animate announced today that they plan to convert its main store in Ikebukuro into the "world's largest anime shop," planning the "grand opening" for spring 2023. The Ikebukuro Animate store is currently the head office for the chain, while also being one of the bigger Animate stores in the country, alongside a specialty food truck in the plaza outside and a cafe in a nearby building.

In the above Tweet and on the website for the redevelopment, Animate mentioned that they're planning a center full of "entertainment that will make your heart throb as well as being a place that "connects people from all over the world that loves anime."
The current Ikebukuro Main Store has not been announced to close for redevelopment as of yet. Spring 2023, which is when the new store is set to have its "grand opening" is the 40th anniversary of the Ikebukuro store,
