A new trailer has dropped for Super Robot Wars 30, the upcoming anniversary outing for everyone's favorite tactical crossover mecha franchise. Clocking in at just under 8 minutes long, it showcases new gameplay, new OG characters… and a completed robot for Lelouch!
With Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection making a showing in the game, the game creators wanted to see Lelouch and C.C.'s Gekkoei — which was rolled out prior to completion, missing legs and with limited weapons — in its final form. Knightmare Frame mechanical designer Eiji Nakada designed the fully-functional Gekkoei Sui specifically for the game. Its new attack animations were also storyboarded at Sunrise.
This isn't the first time Super Robot Wars has adapted an existing mecha to give it an in-game boost. Notably, Go Nagai's Mazinkaiser was originally created for Super Robot Wars F Final, so the Mazinger Z franchise could continue to contend with the increasingly powerful robots it was teamed up with.
You can see Gekkoei Sui in action, along with units from Brave Police J-Decker, Magic Knight Rayearth, SSSS.GRIDMAN, and more, in the trailer:
This isn't the final trailer, by the way — there's one more incoming, which will likely showcase any big cinematics we haven't seen yet.
The PV also shows us the Dreistreger, an original warship designed for the game, and her crew in action; as well as a closer look at the mission screens.
Super Robot Wars 30 drops October 28 in Japan and Asia for the Switch and PS4, with the latter including an English language option. It will also be available the same day globally on Steam, making it the first non-OG Super Robot Wars game to get an official release in North America.
