A voice acting veteran of the anime industry is no longer with us, as reports circulate about the passing of Joji Yanami. Known for Dragon Ball series roles that include the narrator and Kaio-sama (King Kai), Yanami passed away on December 3 at the age of 90.
The announcement of Yanami's passing came from his agency, Aoni Production. His family has already held a private funeral service, and Aoni Production expressed sincere gratitude to Yanami for his kindness over the years.
In addition to his work on Dragon Ball, which went all the way through the early episodes of Dragon Ball Super in 2015, Yanami had many classic roles to his name. Fans in Japan know him well for the role of Chuta Ban in Kyojin no Hoshi (Star of the Giants), based on the classic baseball manga written by Ikki Kajiwara and illustrated by Noboru Kawasaki. He also voiced Ittan Momen in Gegege no Kitaro, Boyacky in Yatterman, and many more.
Joji Yanami will be missed, but his legacy will live on in his roles and the lives he touched.
