Japan Box Office: JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 Returns to No.1 Spot in Its 5th Weekend

In part due to the absence of strong competitors, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 returned to the No.1 spot in its fifth weekend, after staying on the No.2 spot for two consecutive weeks.

The film made 490 million yen (4.3 million USD) on 288,000 admissions in its fifth weekend of January 22-23, which was 108 percent of the previous weekend's box office gross (454 million yen) . The reason for this increase seems to be the distribution of the "MAPPA-painted 'Pure Love' visual board (Yuuta Okkotsu)," the second bonus item for theatergoers since January 22, which attracted more repeaters. The third bonus item will be distributed from February 5, the the fourth item will follow from February 19.

The film's distributor Toho has announced that it has earned 9,310,477,450 yen (81.79 million USD) on 6,812,266 admission in 417 theaters (including 39 IMAX theaters) in Japan in 31 days from December 24, 2021, to January 23, 2022. Now it has become the 50th-highest grossing film of all-time released in Japan and the 16th highest-grossing Japanese film of all-time, surpassing Studio Ghibli's 2010 film The Secret World of Arrietty (9.26 billion yen).

And, in response to many fans' requests, the film has been decided to be screened in MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema from February 5. The 4D screening will be available at 80 theaters nationwide, and the Dolby Cinema screening will be available at five theaters. This new (and expensive) format of screening will will further boost the box office.
