RESULTS: Which Spring 2022 Anime OPs Did You Vote As Your Top 5 Favorites?

Spring is certainly in the air as we near the end of the season and get ready for the heatwave of summer. There were a lot of heavy hitters to contend with in this year’s spring season. So, it’s going to be interesting to see where the votes went in terms of how everyone viewed what was their favorite or best OP of the season. A big thank you to the over 2800 votes that were cast this time around! Let’s dive in and see which show managed to win your hearts over the course of spring.

#5: The Rising of the Shield Hero – "Bring Back" by MADKID (111 votes/4 percent)

There was certainly a fight to secure the fifth spot in these results as nine votes separated three shows from getting here. Season 2 of The Rising of the Shield Hero was able to win out with its wild opening theme that blends power metal, melodic vocals, and fast vocals all into the same song. It’s certainly a track that is very evocative of a fantasy-type setting and really fits in with all of the fast-paced opening visuals.

#4: Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie – "Honey Jet Coaster" by Nasuo☆ (198 votes/7 percent)

Shikimori’s opening theme certainly captures what you normally think of when it comes to romance and slice-of-life shows. It’s very cheery and can easily get stuck in your head for a couple days after watching an episode. I also like how they do some fun stuff with framing in regard to the photos in the first half by giving them a 4:3 and vertical photo look to really make it seem like you’re just getting a slideshow of photos from all of these friends. Plus, you get Shikimori looking cool throughout all of it, which absolutely fits the show as a whole.

#3: Skeleton Knight in Another World – "Aa, Waga Roman no Michi Yo" by PelleK (218 votes/8 percent)

I can’t say I was expecting to be reminded of the band, The Darkness when looking at this season’s slate of OPs, but this certainly does the trick. Similar to our fifth place entry, this is another good example of fitting the fantasy theme but does so a bit differently by having a lot of wailing guitars and high-pitched vocals complimenting Arc as a skeleton having a good time in their new world. It also helps that this is an OP that utilizes sound effects in it which I’ll always be a big fan of.

#2: Kaguya-sama: Love Is War -Ultra Romantic- – "Giri Giri" by Masayuki Suzuki featuring Suu from Silent Siren (461 votes/16 percent)

The openings of this series followed a pattern with Masayuki Suzuki giving us another love song set to the wackiness of the cast of Kaguya-sama. It’s certainly another fun opening from Suzuki, but I also like how a lot of the animation pulls from and almost feels like a strange continuation of what happened during the Season 2 finale. Maybe one day we’ll see Kaguya and Miyuki together, but the rest of the student council dashes those hopes in this fun and goofy opening.

#1: SPY x FAMILY -"Mixed Nuts" by Official Hige Dandism (816 votes/28 percent)

Going just off visuals alone, it’s hard not to be incredibly impressed with the SPY x FAMILY opening. It captures the vibe, the retro feel of the setting, and the classic spy mystery motif in such an excellent way. Then you get to the music and it fits so well it creates such an amazing package that you get sucked in and enticed by everything that is happening. It’s tough to pull your eyes away, which makes sense that this was able to cruise to the top and claim the Number 1 spot.

Congratulations to SPY x FAMILY for winning the top spot and being your collective favorite OP of spring! Thank you all for your contributions and hopefully one of your favorite shows made it into our top 5!
