A bunch of news has been pouring out of the Tsuburaya Convention 2021 event, including an update on Netflix's CG-animated Ultraman anime series. According to the latest, the second season is officially lined up for an April 2022 premiere on Netflix, and a new visual has arrived along with a cast addition.
Joining the cast this time around is Junichi Suwabe (Shoto Aizawa in My Hero Academia), who will voice Alien Pedant.
Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) are back to direct the new season at Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts. The first season of Ultraman hit Netflix back in April 2019 with a batch of 13 episodes, with a TV broadcast coming to Japan the following year.
Several years have passed since the events of Ultraman, with the legendary "Giant of Light" (光の巨人 Hikari no Kyojin) now a memory, as it is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded the Earth. Shin Hayata's son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability, and it is this ability, along with his father's revelation that he was Ultraman, that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.
