Yasuhisa Hara's Historical Manga Kingdom Gets Stage Play in February 2023



Following the TV anime series and the live-action film, a stage play adaptation of Yasuhisa Hara's popular historical manga Kingdom is scheduled to be performed at Imperial Theatre in Tokyo in February 2023. The manga has been serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump sine 2006 and its tankobon has printed over 87 million copies.


According to the source, it was selected by Imperial Theatre in 2016 as a candidate for a stage play adaptation to be performed, then negotiations with the manga's publisher Shueisha began in 2019. From the 64-volume manga, the story of the play will be told up to the reclaiming of the throne. The cast members will be announced at a later date. Meanwhile, Kingdom 2 – Harukanaru Daichi he (To the Land of Faraway), the second live-action film starring Kento Yamazaki, is set to be released in Japan in the summer of 2022.
